Just a brief biography for those who don't know him...
His full name is Solomon Tobi Kayode a.k.a st. kay, born into the family of Onafuyes'. Born and raised up in Lagos. currently studying Mathematics science in the Lagos State University.
He started out his career as an artist and later studied sound engineering at  HornbillStudios. He is now currently the cheif sound engineer at BM(Studioz). St. kay, is a young dude who has got not just passion for music but also trying to bring music to the door step of every young and talented artist who has got talent but are deprived due to finance (i.e if you can sing)chuckles....

GAINING CLIENTELE AS A MUSIC PRODUCER

Ready to move out on your own as a music producer? Then you've probably completed the initial steps -- getting training you need in music production, working with the pros in sound production and studio settings, and making the contacts you'll need to further your music career.
But while going out on your own gives you much more freedom than working for a record label or a recording studio, you also have the responsibility of being in charge. That means you need to:

- Setup your own shop with the digital recording equipment you'll need.

- Establish relationships with recording studios where you'll send musicians

- Develop contact lists of instrument and equipment suppliers, as well as back-up musicians that you may need for individual recordings.

- Handle the details of contracts and copyright issues yourself, or find a music savvy lawyer to help you

- Manage your business's billings, costs and finances, or contract with an accountant

- Handle scheduling and office functions, or hire an assistant.

- Create mix CDs and market your business.

Probably two of the most questions to answer are: "How much should i charge? and where do i find clients?" The short answers are "Not much to start", and "Through your contacts".
Producers who are just starting out will probably need to keep their fees low to attract clients. As you build a reputation and become more well known among musicians, you can charge more. Look to work with a variety of musicians in different genres to build your expertise and give you samples of production work to show future clients.

As with many industries, becoming a music producer often means starting at the bottom, gaining the experience and making the contacts to move up. But there are many different roads to becoming a music producer.
Moving up to music producer takes work and some breaks along the way. Making contacts, learning from talented professionals, building a resume and catching the eye of music industry executives who can help you are all part of the process. Look for chances to stand out from the crowd and to step in and show your stuff.
If you're looking to succeed, here are five suggested essentials to making a music career:

1. Hone your talent. Position yourself as the "go - to" person for your particular skill.

2. Connect with as many people as you can because relationships drive music careers more than anything else, even talent. Your progress will depend on the quality and quantity of your relationships. Develop creative projects with fellow musicians.

3. Take advantage of the power of the internet and desktop technology to gain the look, reach and efficiency of larger companies.

4. Recognize that every business, is becoming a music business, so opportunities are multiplying. For music producers, this may mean considering a career producing for movies, television shows, music videos, advertising or video games or recognizing commercial sponsors for creative ventures.

5. Be versatile and willing to wear several hats until you've established yourself in a music career.

HOW TO SHARPEN YOUR MUSIC LISTENING SKILL

Whats the difference between hearing and listening? Hearing is passive, while listening is active. Listening is also a very rewarding experience. Listening to music enables you to learn the fundamental elements of music, such as form, melody and rhythm, through which you can come to understand and appreciate many types of music.
Here are some excercises that will help you sharpen your music listening skills:

1. Find a reasonable short musical song that you're familiar with, but not too crazy about (so you won't get distracted).

2. Play the song through while listening exclusively to one specific musical instrument. It's best to start with an instrument that you can hear clearly, such as a drum or guitar.
Focus on that instrument while trying to hear what its playing (the melody or rhythm) and how it fits in or supports the piece.
Try to discern how the instrumemt blends with the other instruments. Play the song over until you understand the instrument's role in the song.

3. Try to locate the instrument's stereophonic position. For example, full right, center of left-center. Use headphones for the best results.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each instrument in the piece.

5. Play the song again, and this time get a feel for how each instrument work together with another one to build a musical foundation or mutual support. Note where they complement each other and where they don't.

6. Listen to the entire song while making a diagram of its separate sections (introduction, bridge, chorus, solo, verse e.t.c)

7. Listen to the piece again while using the diagram you just drew to determine the instruments that are introduced in each section and in which sections they play.

8. Play the song, but this time focus on the back-up vocals, taking note of where they occur and where they don't.

9. Listen once again while trying to hear each harmony, and determine if the harmonics change during song and in what way (for example, different voices moving in opposite directions or one voice holding a single note while the others harmonize)

10. Best you can while playing the song.

PRODUCER review...TIMBALAND

Super-producer Timberland has stamped his indelible imprint on the music scene since the mid-1990s. His production has helped create career-defining hits for artists such as Jodeci, Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Missy Elliot, Destiny's Child, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z, among many others. Respected beyond the genres of urban and hip hop music, Timbaland, whose musical influences cross cultural lines, has also been sought by diverse superstars whose music similarly knows no boundaries, from pop star Jusin Timberlake to Avant-Singer Bjork. Released April 3, 2007 is his second solo album.
Timbaland presents shock value (Black ground/Interscope/mosley music group). That disc follows his producing of the majority of the tracks, including the #1 "SexyBack", on Timberlake's #1 charting, multiplatinum Futuresex/Love sounds, which followed their work together on Timberlake's previous smash, Justified.
Born Timothy Z. Mosley in Norfolk, Virginia on March 10, 1972, Timbaland, so named by Jodeci member Devante swing after the Timberland boot, has had many reincarnations--from disc jockey DJ Tiny Tim to half of the hip hop group Timbaland & Magoo, from membership in Devante Swing's swing mob crew known as Da Bassment to S.B.I (Surrounded By Idiots), a production essemble including Pharrell Williams, to being CEO of his own label, Mosley Music Group.
Ginuwine's hit single "pony" and debut Lp Ginuwine---the Bachelor, produced by Timbaland, introduced a unique rhythmic style that defined the new wave of music in the '90s...R&B and hip hop mixed with an eclectic smorgasbord of effects held together by complex syncopated snare beats. At the same time, his partnership with high school friend Missy Elliott blossomed into a pairing that delivered Aaliyah's double platinum One In A Million and they became one of music's most successful production/songwriting teams.
Naturally, Elliott looked to Timbaland to also define her as an artist and their together, tracks such as "The Rain", propelled Elliott to major stardom and critical acclaim.
Timbaland's trademark sound has spawned numerous imitators yet he has always remained the acknowledged originator. Not suprisingly given his talents, he started a new label in partnership with Interscope even as he delivered another three albums for Elliott, including 2005's The Cookbook.
He also launched Tweet, who debuted with southern Hummingbird, and produced Lil'Kim's "The Jump Off". The Game relied on Tim for "Steer" and "Put You On The Game".
Along the way he built an impressive 5,000 square foot studio in Virginia Beach where he does most of his production, and he regularly travels between that location, his Miami residence and the West Coast. In 2006 he founded a new label, again at Interscope, appropriately called Mosely Music Group (MMG) open to all types of artists, MMG debuted with a bang: Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous" featuring Timbaland, which hit #1, as did her album, Loose.
Timbaland's genre breaking has changed popular music today, and he takes pride in his success at staying ahead of the curve with his originality and experimentation. Confident and charismatic, his goal is still to blow the listener's mind and make them move to the beat.
On the personal side, this artist/producer is an avid bodybuilder committed to a strict diet and training regimen, and as serious about working out as he is about his time in the studio.
"You also can accomplish anything you put your mind to if you stay persistent and disciplined", explains the driven and dedicated Timbaland, an innovator of sound who continues to set popular tastes while adventurously expanding his musical palette.

HOW MUSIC PRODUCERS WORK

Becoming a music producer can mean discovering and helping shape the careers of award-winning musicians.
However, it takes time, talent, training and contacts. That's because a music producer has plenty of responsibilities during an album production, both on the creative and the business sides.
The producer supervises all aspects of the recording process, from helping to select songs to contracting with session players, selecting the studio time and overseeing the recording budget.
All these responsibilities require musical skill and performance experience, combined with a thorough knowledge of musical genres, music and sound production in a recording studio.
Some music producers work for record labels producing for recording artists under contract, while others produce sound recordings for movies, television shows, music videos, commercials or video games. And while many are full-time employees, others are self-employed.
That type of music career means you also need to be adept at running your own business.
